Velvet always seems to make its way onto the runway, and this year is no exception. With brands like Ralph Lauren, Anna Sui, and Diane Von Furstenberg accenting their collections with luxurious velvet gowns, soft blazers and flowy kimonos, velvet can be incorporated into any outfit whether its an off-duty look or for the evening.

Probably the most popular trend for Fall and Winter this year is menswear. I love that the menswear trend this season takes on the structural aspect and tailored looks, but doesn’t go so far as suspenders and ties. –It still has a little bit of femininity. The great thing about menswear is that it doesn’t necessarily have to be a head-to-toe look. Instead of wearing a pair of wideleg jeans, you could opt for a pair of tailored trousers, or substitute pumps for oxfords. My favorite menswear inspired piece is the tailored coat. It is structured and clean looking with out being too masculine. I have a feeling menswear will be a reining trend for a while.

When I interviewed the president and founder of Free People, Meg Hayne, recently, I asked her what her must have clothing staple is, and she told me with great enthusiasm, “a really great pair of jeans.” Below are four great jean options that are long lasting investment pieces.
